America Lung Association to Release "State of the Air 2014" Report

MEDIA ALERT

(April 24, 2014)

WHAT:  The American Lung Association is releasing the results of its 15th annual “State of the Air” report, a national air quality “report card” that grades counties and ranks cities across the nation based on their scores for ozone (sometimes called smog), year-round particle pollution (sometimes called soot) and short-term particle pollution levels.

WHERE: The full report will be available at www.stateoftheair.org, on April 30, 2014, at 12 a.m. (local time), including trend charts and rankings for metropolitan areas and county grades, an infographic, and a full discussion of health concerns and policy recommendations.

WHEN: Materials are embargoed until Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 12:00 a.m. (local time).

WHO:  Embargoed interviews are available upon request with Janice Nolen, Assistant Vice President of National Policy and “State of the Air” project director, American Lung Association.

HOW: To schedule an embargoed interview, contact Gregg Tubbs, Gregg.Tubbs@Lung.org or 202-715-3469.

WHY:  Half of the people in the United States live in counties that have unhealthy levels of either ozone (smog) or particle pollution (soot)—the most common air pollutants that can cause asthma attacks, heart attacks, and even premature death.  Find out if the air quality in your area is safe to breathe and how to protect your loved ones from these hazardous toxins. Learn about critical steps that the nation must take to continue to make progress toward cleaner, healthier air.
