Professor Berge will be making a keynote address at the 14th annual conference taking place on 19th and 20th May in Central London. His presentation entitled: The Translation Gap and Assessing Failures, Case Study1 – Pre-Clinical Perspective, will discuss translation from animal models to man, failed pain mechanisms and experimental models versus clinical trials.

Snippet of Interview:

Q. About you – what is your role and current activities?
I am working as a consultant with issues related to project generation and development in the neuroscience area, particularly within pain control. Academically, I am engaged in research at Uppsala University Multidisciplinary Pain Center.

Q. What is the value/strengths of this year’s Pain Therapeutics event?
It's an excellent forum for networking and discussion

Q. What will attendees take away from your talk?
An understanding of how animal models can contribute to project generation and propagation - and how to avoid some of the traps in the translational process.

Q. What is the future for Pain Therapeutics?
There is undoubtedly a great medical need for more efficacious and better tolerated treatments. Incremental improvement of existing therapies, e.g. in formulation and personalized administration is likely to play a role. In a longer perspective, we may hope that tackling the challenges of anti-NGF and ion channel approaches will change the way pain is treated pharmacologically.
