The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Best of the Clean Cities Tools and Resources,” on Friday, March 28, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (Note: rescheduled from originally announced date of March 31). During this webinar, participants will learn about the top 10 resources the Clean Cities Technical Response Service uses to answer common questions related to alternative fuels, advanced vehicles, and other petroleum-reduction strategies. The presentation will give a brief overview of popular Alternative Fuels Data Center tools as well as resources available from the national laboratories, other federal agencies, and industry.

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Engaging Building Occupants to Reduce Energy Use” on Tuesday, April 1, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Learn how Better Buildings Challenge partners Michigan State University (MSU), Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and Transwestern have developed programs to encourage commercial building tenants to reduce their energy use. Lynda Boomer will share how MSU's Environmental Stewards program enlists champions from individual campus units or departments to track monthly energy metrics, promote energy-saving practices, and serve as liaisons to MSU’s sustainability program. Jon Utech will explain how the Cleveland Clinic Foundation is partnering with clinicians to smooth the way for technology upgrades and implement behavior-change strategies aimed at reducing energy and water consumption. In addition, Dorothy Schwarz will speak on how Transwestern has developed a number of programs to encourage commercial building tenants to reduce their energy use.

During the webinar, attendees will learn about legislative drivers relative to ASHRAE standards and which buildings fall under each standard. The webinar will also cover major changes in the most recent versions of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and the International Energy Conservation Code, and will help participants understand the actual requirements of the standards, where to look for conservation measures, and how to determine if a building meets them.

April 3: Live Webinar on Climate Change Impacts and Indian Country: Disaster Response and Recovery

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled, “Climate Change Impacts and Indian Country: Disaster Response and Recovery” on Thursday, April 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The webinar will cover the primary efforts of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to evaluate, assess, and mitigate the impacts of climate change on their disaster recovery and response programs. Under the Stafford Act, Tribes are eligible to receive direct assistance from FEMA and can learn from FEMA and others’ efforts as they assess, plan, and implement their own disaster response and recovery plans to address climate change impacts on their communities. This webinar is the first in the four-part “Climate Change Impacts and Indian Country” webinar series.

Two Better Buildings Alliance members will share their successful pneumatic controls retrofit project experiences and results.
