Private Expeditions Launches the 2014 Walking With The Wounded Kilimanjaro Challenge

BURTON-ON-TRENT, ENGLAND, January 20, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Walking With The Wounded, the UK based charity which helps wounded servicemen and women find long term employment has announced its 2014 Kilimanjaro Challene organised by Private Expedtions.

Walking With The Wounded is a UK based charity which funds both the re-training and re-education of wounded servicemen and women with the aim of helping them find long term employment after they have left the Armed Forces.

Its main fundraising activities are focussed on extreme expeditions to highlight the extraordinary determination and courage of Our Wounded soldiers. Their most recent expedition was the hugely successful South Pole Allied Challenge which saw teams including Wounded Soldiers from the UK, Australia and USA, joined by Prince Harry, trek to the South Pole.

Paul Deakin of Private Expeditions, the high altitude trekking specialists organising the climb for Walking With The Wounded, commented “Climbing Kilimanjaro is a fantastic challenge. The team from Walking With The Wounded who climbed last year had a wonderful time and we are delighted to be working with the charity to organise the 2014 challenge. The great thing about Kilimanjaro is that although it is nearly 20,000 feet, climbing it requires no specialist technical expertise just bucket loads of determination. “

Andrew Cook, Director of Fundraising at Walking With The Wounded said, "Although our main expeditions are the focus of our fundraising we have a huge number of supporters who are keen to take part in more accessible challenges that also allow them to witness first-hand the determination of Our Wounded Soldiers. In 2013, Private Expeditions organised our first Kilimanjaro challenge and this was a great success with all of the participants reaching the summit successfully. They were joined on their adventure by Captain Ibi Ali who was part of the UK’s team on the South Pole Challenge. We are delighted to be now launching our 2014 Kilimanjaro Challenge."

The Walking With The Wounded challenge to climb Kilimanjaro will start in Tanzania on 14 September 2014 with 7 days of climbing. The team will climb via the Machame route, which offers excellent acclimatisation and as a result has the highest success rate.
