Brooks Transfer & Storage has evolved, embracing new technologies along the way to improve service to customers. The company purchased its first motorized truck in 1918, for example. Even "modern" equipment like telephones and fax machines are being replaced by smartphones and tablets to streamline and revolutionize how the company does business.
Brooks Transfer was one of the founding agents of United Van Lines in 1947 and is still a Class A shareholder of Unigroup, Inc., the holding company for United and Mayflower Transit.
In 1952, Brooks Transfer & Storage added a location in Virginia Beach to be closer to its hub of military clientele. In 1982, the company moved to a larger facility of 56,000 square feet in the London Bridge section of Virginia Beach. In 2010, Brooks' Richmond branch was sold, but there are plans to expand operations soon with more tractor-trailers and perhaps another 20,000 square feet of space to their facility.
As much as things have changed, however, some remain the same. The full-service Virginia Beach moving company continues to focus on helping people relocate, whether it's to a different military base halfway across the world or a new home just a hundred miles away.
