Raising Investment Funds for Clean Energy Programs and Working with Financial Institutions" on Thursday, December 5, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This webinar will provide an introduction to launching clean energy programs for small local governments, economic development authorities, and non-profit organizations that wish to seek financing from private institutions. Different types of financing and lenders will be explored, including how they are likely to respond to the risks and opportunities associated with clean energy program funding. The webinar will present a step-by-step process for approaching lenders, and highlight additional resources for taking these steps.

December 9: Live Webinar on Small Business Innovation Research Grants for First Time Applicants

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled "EE SBIR Webinar for First Time Applicants on FY14 Phase I Release 2 Topics" on Monday, December 9, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The webinar is intended to benefit first time applicants to EERE's research topics in the FY14 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Funding Opportunity. The webinar will feature opening remarks from Mr. Jere Glover, one of the founders of the federal SBIR program, and will feature experts from EERE's technology offices who will provide background information that can often be difficult for first time applicants to find. The EERE SBIR goal is to increase the number of applicants from women- and minority-owned small businesses.

December 18: Live Webinar on the Western Wind and Solar Integration Study, Phase 2

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "The Western Wind and Solar Integration Study Phase 2" on Wednesday, December 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. During the webinar, Greg Brinkman, a member of the Energy Forecasting and Modeling Group in the Strategic Energy Analysis Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will present the results of the Western Wind and Solar Integration Study (WWSIS), Phase 2. This study, which follows the first phase of WWSIS, focuses on potential emissions and wear-and-tear costs of cycling fossil-fueled generators in scenarios with wind and solar generation integration of up to 33%.

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled "Introduction to Pre-engineered Metal Building Envelope Commissioning" on Wednesday, December 18, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The metal building industry produces more than 50% of all new low-rise nonresidential construction in the United States. These buildings serve many different commercial, industrial, institutional, and educational purposes. The webinar will offer participants: an introduction to pre-engineered metal building envelope commissioning, stakeholders and participants; current guidelines and standards related to commissioning; and envelope-specific commissioning tests. The information in this webinar will also be widely applicable to other low-rise commercial building uses.

During the webinar, Ballard Power Systems highlights an open-source fuel cell simulation package funded by EERE that allows users to simulate both the performance and durability of a PEM fuel cell membrane electrode assembly. The details of the model are also discussed with a focus on the theory, background, validation, and results of the simulation package.
