Europe and Eurasia: Design Team Selection Announced for New U.S. Embassy in Beirut

The Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) announces the selection of Morphosis Architects to design the new U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.

Morphosis was selected from a very talented shortlist of three architecture/engineering (A/E) teams that advanced to the final round of presentations and interviews. Morphosis presented a strong, cohesive team with over 50 years of collaborative experience. Their presentation demonstrated the management and design approach required to successfully execute this project, as well as a thorough understanding of the importance and impact of an American Embassy in Beirut.

This project was solicited under OBO’s Excellence in Diplomatic Facilities initiative, a holistic approach to project development and delivery which seeks to utilize the best methods, technologies, and staff abilities to produce facilities that are outstanding in all respects.

OBO’s mission is to provide safe, secure, and functional facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and support our staff in the achievement of U.S. foreign policy objectives. These facilities should represent American values and the best in American architecture, engineering, technology, sustainability, art, culture, and construction execution.
