FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 28, 2013 - BI-LO today announced an immediate recall of the Taylor Farms Spinach Antipasti Salad sold at the BI-LO store located at 500 Furys Ferry Road in Martinez, Ga. This item is sold in the full-service case in the deli department. This recall is an expansion of an earlier recall announced by Reser’s Fine Foods Inc. The initial recall did not affect products sold in any BI-LO stores. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the reason for the recall is the potential that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
To protect its customers, BI-LO is immediately recalling the Spinach Antipasti Salad from the deli case in this store. No other BI-LO stores are affected by this recall.
The recalled Taylor Farms Spinach Antipasti Salad was sold between Oct. 19 and Oct. 27. BI-LO has received no reports of any issues associated with Spinach Antipasti Salad consumption.
“The store director has removed this product from the deli, and we ask that anyone who has purchased this item discard it immediately,” said Brian Wright, BI-LO’s communications and community vice president. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and invite customers to visit their neighborhood store to receive a full refund.”
To receive the refund, customers may present proof of purchase through a receipt or the product-packaging label.
Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. An invasive infection spreads beyond the gastrointestinal tract. In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illnesses.
Customers with questions about the recalled products may contact the BI-LO Customer Call Center toll free at 800-768-4438, Mon. - Fri., 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. EDT, and Sat., 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. EDT.
