SUNY Cortland Goes 100% Renewable
State University of New York's (SUNY) Cortland campus has recently taken action to use 100% renewable energy. In July the school was 1 of 79 applicants awarded funds for large-scale solar energy projects under the NY-Sun Initiative. With those funds, the university is planning to work with SolarCity to install a total of 700 solar panels on campus which will generate about 6 percent of the campus' electricity use. SUNY Cortland will further demonstrate its commitment to renewables by purchasing 16 million kilowatts (kW) of renewable energy certificates (RECs) in September, 2013. The RECs and the solar installations combined will account for 100% of the electricity used on the campus.
