Over the last few years new advances in DNA testing technology have increased the accuracy of all DNA testing, but in particular paternity testing. While most commercial DNA testing laboratories test using 16 markers the new technology allows them to test using up to 24 markers.
Most DNA testing test using 16 markers for their DNA paternity testing, which makes for an accuracy of 99.9%, but the new advance in DNA technology allows for the testing of 24 markers, which improves the accuracy of the testing process up to 100%.
A genetic marker is a gene or DNA sequence with a known location on a chromosome that can be used to identify individuals or species. The more of these markers DNA experts use to match two individual DNA samples the more accurate the results.

DNA paternity testing is the use of genetic fingerprinting to determine whether two individuals have a biological parent–child relationship. A paternity test establishes genetic proof whether a man is the biological father of an individual, and a maternity test establishes whether a woman is the biological mother of an individual.
The most popular DNA testing laboratories are Trimega, Cellmark, DNA Worldwide and AlphaBiolabs. All test for 16 markers but currently only one test for all 24 markers.
