WASHINGTON, D.C., Aug. 1, 2013 — The American Bar Association’s Section of Science Technology Law will release next week its Summer 2013 issue of The SciTech Lawyer, which charts the legal implications of “mobile privacy.”

“This issue looks into the rapidly evolving issues related to mobile technologies, such as privacy, transparency and the use of personal data,” said Lucy L. Thomson, chair of the Section of Science Technology Law. “More Americans than ever use their mobile devices to share information, and privacy protections and the law must keep pace with the use of new technologies.”

The summer special issue is a collection of seven articles and sidebars written by some of the country’s foremost futurists, mobile privacy experts and technology lawyers, who are available to media outlets seeking sources. Experts and their articles include:

• “Mobile Marketing Complicates Legal Compliance” by William B. Baker;
• “Mobile Apps: Great Marketing Tool or Litigation Trap for the Unwary?” by Dominique Shelton;
• “Getting Through BYOD Without PTSD” by Orrie Dinstein;
• “Where’s Waldo? Geolocation, Mobile Apps and Privacy” by Lori Andrews;
• “Mobile Device Security” by Robert Thibadeau and Lucy Thomson;
• “Peering Into Personal Space: Investigating Employee‐Owned Mobile Devices” by Kimberly Peretti and Bruce Sarkisian; and
• “Mobile Privacy and Security QA with the Regulators/Enforcers” by Ruth Hill Bro, Ann Cavoukian, Ph.D., and Christopher N. Olsen.

The SciTech Lawyer magazine, which provides information about current developments in law, science, medicine and technology, is published quarterly and is one of the many benefits received with section membership.

The Summer 2013 issue of The SciTech Lawyer magazine will be available Aug. 7. This edition is a companion to the Winter/Spring 2013 special double issue focused on mobile transformation released earlier this year.
