American Bar Association to present 2013 Silver Gavel Awards for Media and the Arts
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 16, 2013 — The American Bar Association will present its 2013 Silver Gavel Awards for Media and the Arts to those who have earned the organization’s highest honor for outstanding work that fosters the American public’s understanding of law. The awards will be given at a ceremony from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Pulitzer Prize-winning Supreme Court reporter Linda Greenhouse of Yale Law School and formerly of The New York Times will be the featured speaker at the awards ceremony. ABA President Laurel G. Bellows will present four Silver Gavels selected from nearly 150 entries received in all eligible categories, which include books, commentary, documentaries, drama and literature, magazines, newspapers, radio, television and other media.
The association has presented these awards annually since 1958. The 18-member ABA Standing Committee on Gavel Awards, chaired by Cory M. Amron of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease in D.C., makes final award decisions. The ABA gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP for the Silver Gavel Awards program.
