Food and drink manufacturers who are concerned about upcoming mandatory changes to food labelling, required under the European Union's Food Information Regulation, can receive practical guidance at the Food and Drink Federation (FDF)'s 'Understanding the Food Information Regulation' seminar.

This seminar will be held on 11 September in London and will help manufacturers ensure compliance with the Regulation, which affects all food business operators, by the December 2014 deadline.

Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 on Food Information to Consumers, commonly known as the Food Information Regulation, came into force in December 2011, marking the beginning of the transition period to replace the current food labelling rules. New requirements include a minimum font size for mandatory information; mandatory back-of-pack nutrition labelling; a clearer indication of allergens in the ingredients list and an extension to the rules for country of origin labelling.

At FDF's seminar, delegates will be helped to unpick the Regulation via a programme of expert presentations and Q sessions with industry and legal experts, officials responsible for regulation and enforcement, and representatives of retail customers.

Barbara Gallani, Director of FDF's Regulatory, Science and Health Division, said:

“All European food and drink manufacturers, from major corporates to small and medium sized businesses, are required to adapt their labelling in line with the Food Information to Consumers Regulation. UK companies who fail to meet these new requirements in time for the December 2014 deadline risk falling foul of UK enforcement bodies. Attending this seminar will help food and drink professionals understand the required changes and achieve compliance within their businesses, whether they are in product development, regulatory affairs, brand management, nutrition, allergen or packaging design related roles.”
