24 MW Solar Installation Underway at Ohana Military Communities
Construction of a 24 megawatt (MW) solar system recently began at Ohana Military Communities (OMC) in Hawaii which serves personnel of Navy Region Hawaii and Marine Corps Base Hawaii. The project is being completed by SolarCity and Forest City Military Communities, and will ultimately bring renewable energy to 6,500 OMC residences. The installation is part of SolarCity's SolarStong project, which aims to install $1 billion of solar energy for U.S. military housing communities over five years. In total, the SolarStrong project could create up to 300 MW of solar generating capacity, powering 120,000 housing units.
