CHICAGO – Author and leadership consultant Peter Bregman, will headline the closing general session at the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 16th National Conference and Exhibition. Peter Bregman is the CEO of Bregman Partners, Inc., a global management consulting firm that advises organizations and their leadership teams. He speaks, writes and consults about how to lead and how to live. His most recent book, “18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done,” was named the best business book of the year on NPR and selected by Publisher’s Weekly and the New York Post as a top 10 business book. In “18 Minutes,” Bregman demonstrates how busy people can cut through all the daily clutter and distractions in their lives and find a way to focus on those key items which are truly the top priorities.
Bregman began his career teaching leadership on wilderness and mountaineering expeditions before moving into the consulting field and launching Bregman Partners in 1998. He works from the premise that the best way to combat constant and distracting interruptions is to create productive distractions of one's own. His presentation will send national conference attendees off with practical suggestions to refocus their time, avoid distractions and effectively channel their energy.
Registration for the AASL 16th National Conference Exhibition is now open at national.aasl.org. Those wishing to join their peers for learning and networking focused on school librarianship are encouraged to register before the Aug. 22 early bird deadline to save $100 on registration rates.
The AASL national conference is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. The 16th National Conference Exhibition, Rising to the Challenge, taking place Nov. 14–17, 2013, in Hartford, Conn., will feature preconference workshops, concurrent sessions and an exhibition featuring companies relevant to the school library profession.
The American Association of School Librarians, www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program.
