Track:

Road Atlanta - 2.54-mile, 12-turn natural road course

Length:

Rolex Series - 2.75 hour timed race CTSCCS – 2.5 hour timed race

See For Yourself:

One can describe Road Atlanta as a classic road course.  Full of elevation changes, high speed corners, and plenty of places to pass, this is sure to be a race for the history books.  Hear what Robin Liddell, Boris Said, Jordan Taylor, and Ryan Eversley have to say about Road Atlanta and find out what it takes to race in the rain.  Watch now: Road Atlanta Preview.

Tire Sets:

DP, GT and GX teams will all be allowed 6 sets of tires for the race (including slicks and rain tires).  A team that has a Truman/Aiken driver, or “young gun” driver, will be allow one extra set.  There is no set limit for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series (CTSCCS).

Where Else Does This Compound Race:

DP – this tire compound is used at Austin, Barber, Road Atlanta, Belle Isle, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca and Lime Rock. GT – this tire compound is used at Austin, Barber, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Laguna Seca, and Lime Rock. CTSCC – this tire compound will be used at all tracks this year.

Pit Window:

The estimated pit window for this race is 35-40 laps for all classes.  It’s too soon to tell if teams will double stint on tires.  Thursday’s open test will provide more info.  These are just approximations and does not account for fuel mileage, weather or caution flag laps.

Track Characteristics:

Considered a road course in the classic sense, Road Atlanta is full of places to pass, elevation changes, and high speed corners.  The 12-turn natural road course is an excellent track for spectators, especially through the esses where there’s sure to be plenty of door-to-door action and driver frustration.  Overall, Road Atlanta is not typically hard on tires so expect a good, close race.

DID YOU KNOW

  • Prepared rain or shine – Continental will bring a total of 2,000 tires to Road Atlanta (1,500 slick and 500 rain tires).  According to the weather, you may see the rain tires come out during Friday’s practice and qualifying session.

  • Green, green, green – Following each race, every team designates whether they are keeping or scrapping their tires.  The tires are marked accordingly and the tires that are designated as scrap go on a trailer that heads to the recycling plant.  Here, tires are processed and scrap steel (i.e. belts and beads) is removed with magnets while fiber components are removed with air classifiers.  The result is clean recycled rubber which is then used for a variety of products and materials including mulch and asphalt.

  • #TheFuture – Continental Tire will service both the GRAND-AM and ALMS Series’ this weekend…on opposite ends of the country.  Continental will have its normal setup at Road Atlanta to service all the Rolex Series and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series teams, including roughly 20 service personnel and four engineers.  Additionally, Continental will have a smaller setup, with about 10 personnel, in Long Beach, CA to service the Prototype Challenge (PC) teams in ALMS competition.
