Program proposals now being accepted for 2014 ALA Annual Conference and ALSC National Institute

NEWS For Immediate Release April 11, 2013

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is now accepting proposals for innovative programs for the 2014 ALA Annual Conference and the 2014 ALSC National Institute. Be part of this exciting professional development opportunity by submitting your program today!

To submit a program proposal, please fill out the online program proposal form located on the ALSC website. All proposals must be submitted by Friday, June 7, 2013. Please note that the submission form cannot be saved; you must submit all of your information at one time. The 2014 ALA Annual Conference is scheduled for June 26 - July 1, 2014 in Las Vegas, and the 2014 ALSC National Institute is scheduled for September 18 - 20, 2014 in Oakland, Calif. The same proposal form is being used for both conferences, but in the application you are able to select which conference for which you would like to apply.

The ALSC Program Planning Committee is looking for a wide range of themes and topics such as advocacy, technology, multiculturalism, administration and management, early literacy, research, partnerships, best practices, programming and outreach. ALSC committees, members and other interested individuals are welcome to submit a proposal.

Please note that participants attending ALSC programs are seeking valuable educational experiences; the Program Coordinating Committee will not select a program session that suggests commercial sales or self-promotion. Presentations should provide a valuable learning experience and avoid being too limited in scope.

The Program Planning Committee and National Institute Task Force are particularly interested in Institute programs that address the third Goal Area of the ALSC Strategic Plan: “ALSC will empower its members to eliminate barriers to library services for children and the communities that support them.” Have you developed services or strategies “on the cheap” that let you serve an underserved population in a new way? Have you collaborated with the community in developing or delivering services that have helped to overcome barriers? Do you have ideas for how we can do this, and have thoughts for a panel that could spark discussion?
