New cereal, yogurt, meal entries could fill a grocery basket
General Mills is offering consumers a basketful of cereal and yogurt choices, and a new option for meals on the go. Old El Paso Tortilla Stuffers in flavors of Mesquite Chicken, Carne Asada and Garlic Chili Chicken will begin shipping to local grocers in late March.
Ready in 60 seconds, the product is designed for those occasions when “I need a quick, substantial bite to keep my family on the go.”
The heat-and-serve product comes in shelf-ready packaging and provides a microwavable solution to meals that require little or no cleanup.
This is the first convenient, complete meal in the Mexican aisle.
Cascadian Farm introduces Chocolate O’s for organic consumers. Each serving contains 8 grams of whole grain and 3 grams of fiber.
The Cascadian Farm brand outpaces the competition on both volume and growth in the cereal aisle.
In the natural/organic bars category, Cascadian Farm is offering Oatmeal Raisin chewy bars.
Each bar is a good source of fiber and lacks high fructose corn syrup, preservatives and hydrogenated oils. It's a great snack option for both kids and adults.
Chex - Rice, Corn, Honey Nut, Cinnamon and Chocolate flavors – will enjoy a relaunch. It’s a breakfast cereal for those who can’t tolerate gluten, a protein that is naturally found in many grains.
For the segment of the population that suffers from an intolerance to gluten, the only treatment for this condition is avoidance of gluten - and those sufferers certainly do avoid breakfast cereal.
Only 41 percent of gluten-free dieters consume ready-to-eat cereal, compared with 93 percent in the general population. A big reason for that is the gluten contained in cereals, but Chex has already made an impact on the gluten-free market: Consumers purchase Chex at a rate three times that of the general population,
General Mills offers other gluten-free products as well.
Cinnamon Burst Cheerios has 9 grams of sugar and provides fiber – 20 percent of your Daily Value per serving. That means people will find both health and great taste in this offering that is expected to satisfy the entire family.
Fiber One 90 Calorie Chocolate Peanut Butter chewy bars are also getting a relaunch.
At 5 grams of fiber per 90-calorie bar, the product beats popular competitors for fiber content.
You’ll also see the updated Fiber One logo on the packaging.
In the yogurt aisle, consumers will find Fiber One Blueberry in a four-pack. Blueberry is the top-turning flavor among "specialty health" yogurts.
Fruit Snacks is adding Mood Morphers to its Gushers franchise, and also is rolling out a Fruit by the Foot line featuring Nickelodeon's iCarly, the No. 1 live action show for both boys and girls spanning ages 6-11.
The No. 2 kids show on cable television is "The Penguins of Madagascar," and consumers will see DreamWorks Fruit Shapes with that equity, the first one to be featured on what will be a rotating product with the DreawmWorks affiliation.
Pillsbury is offering Sweet Moments Chocolate Chip Bites as well as a relaunch of Big Buttery/Big Flaky crescent rolls.
Per capita consumption of supermarket desserts is high in countries such as France, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and the United States is catching onto the trend.
Yoplait is capitalizing on the 18 percent growth last year of yogurt in multipacks by introducing Yoplait Greek Strawberry and Honey Vanilla.
Greek-style yogurt in multipacks is rare, and these varieties come four to a pack.
Yoplait also is presenting Protein Peach and Key Lime, the latter being a first in the Greek category. Packaging for all of the Greek segment will get a facelift.
Consumers will also see Yoplait Light four-packs in blueberry, Key lime, strawberry and vanilla flavors.
Yoplait continues the multipack theme with its Boston Cream Pie and Strawberry Shortcake Light Dessert eight-packs.
Yoplait Delights will debut Cherry Cheesecake and Chocolate Éclair flavors. The Yoplait Delights line launched last year.
In the kids’ category, Go-Gurt will offer a 16-count value pack of Strawberry Watermelon and Punch, and there will be a re-launch of Yoplait Kid Strawberry, Strawberry/Banana and Vanilla.
