Award-winning Educator Enjoys Huge Growth In Demand For Its Free Online Courses & Certification
Irish-based and UNESCO award winning free online education provider now graduating 10,000 students per month worldwide
/EINPresswire.com/ ALISON.com, the free online learning provider for basic education and workplace skills training announced today that it is now graduating in excess of 10,000 students per month worldwide. Speaking at the launch of its 500th free online course release (Free Certificate in Adobe Photoshop CS6 - Essential Tools), Mike Feerick, CEO & Founder of ALISON stated that since the launch of its pioneering free online learning offering in 2007, the number of students graduating per month had risen steadily. Now however, the growth rate of its services was hitting new highs. "Our October learner traffic was over 30% up on September and we see no reason as to why this terrific growth rate will not continue," he said.
With an ambition to make all basic education and workplace skills training freely accessible online, ALISON has extended its initial free online courses offering beyond IT Skills and Digital Literacy to over 10 categories of learning, from Health Management to free language courses from Arabic to Swedish. ALISON's free online English languages resources remain one of ALISON's busiest category offerings.
Frequently listed as part of the new revolution of MOOC's (Massive Online Open Courseware), CEO Mike Feerick stated that while the recent arrival of new online services such as Coursera, Edx and Udacity was very welcome in opening up learning to others, he viewed the initial innovation of these services as limited, if set to expand. "The business models of traditional colleges and educational institutes are going to be greatly tested by these new services and by the likes of ALISON as our services grow in sophistication and size."
While the focus on workplace skills training and assisting personal development and "employability" distinguishes ALISON, Feerick believes the ALISON model is applicable across all sectors of the global education and workplace skills training market, and will prove robust in the long term. "As a social enterprise, our goal is to drive the cost of education towards zero while developing a new business model that will allow that to happen. This we have succeeded in doing. Having a green field to build upon has been a very great advantage, something the many incumbents will struggle greatly to deal with."
Mike Feerick finished by stating that he believed the ALISON certification and business model was built on a much sounder business foundation than many of the recently announced free online learning initiatives. "The revolution in education and the new learning ecology that ALISON is developing is much more radical than simply publishing courses for free online. After all, You Tube has been doing that for years," he said.
