Four New Books Feature Campaign Intrigue, Feisty Cats,Cavepeople and 'Brains Bowl' Competitors

McNeil & Richards has released four new books, all with a touch of humor

/EINPresswire.com/ September 19, 2012 --

Brains
It is Sunday afternoon. Millions of people gather in stadiums or huddle around television sets to watch the big game of the week. And it's not football. It's brains.

Daniel Breeze wrote Brains after he speculated about what would happen if football declined in popularity. What would fill the void? He imagined a near-future in which Brains was the dominate sport. The Chicago Philosophers and teams from other cities compete in the quiz show-like competition, and it all leads to the playoffs and the biggest game—the Brains Bowl.

The novel follows Coach Rock Nelson's Phils on their quest for the title. Among the players: a former secretary of state, a convicted murderer, a 72-year-old woman recruited from a nursing home, a California playboy and a rookie.

The Perfect Candidate
That's life. One day you're writing sleazy headlines for a raunchy supermarket tabloid and the next day you're chasing a politician around Illinois, trying to figure out what he's hiding.

In The Perfect Candidate, a new book from McNeil & Richards, reporter David McGraw teams up with downstate television journalist Marilyn Chambers to investigate Harry Jerome, a publicity-shy candidate for governor. They soon discover Harry is hiding more than little secrets. A source claims the real Harry Jerome died sixteen years ago!

Now they have a week to expose the conspiracy to elect a dead man. Will Jerome go to the governor's mansion — or prison?.

Three Cat Tales
Three stories are told from the cats' point of view in Three Cat Tales. "Smokey and Boomer" is a Christmas story. The other two are memoirs: "Boomer's Story" followed by "And Along Came Princess".

In his story, Boomer tells how his owner, who he calls Pa, decided to write the story "Smokey and Boomer":

One day Pa couldn't think of an idea for his next book. Smokey and I brushed against him. "What could I write about?" Pa said. We brushed against him again. "I need to find a good idea for a story," he said. Smokey and I brushed against him again, hitting him so hard he fell out of his chair. Then Smokey and I got right in front of him and glared at him real hard.

"I know!" he said. "I'll write about you two. I'll call it Smokey and Boomer!"

Smokey and I shook our heads. Sometimes humans are so slow to take a hint you just want to lock them in a room and throw away the key.

In his story, Boomer also gives his view on what life is all about. "I know why I am here. I just don't know why you are here.".

Love in the Caves
Long ago, in the community of Utter Bliss, one caveman used his brain, not his brawn, to carve out a living.

As the new book Love in the Caves from McNeil & Richards tells it,  a caveman named I Think decided there must be more to life than counting to seven and drawing primitive artwork on cave walls. He started the first academy, invented the wheel and the chariot, and wrote the first dictionary. Then he decided to enter the political arena, and he tried to convince Emperor Big Feet he should hold the first election. The emperor finally agreed. "Perhaps I will be remembered as Big Feet the Great. Doesn't sound right. You know, I never was fond of the name Big Feet. Of course, Crazy Jake in Philadelphia has it worse. Had a terrible time at the peace conference. Nearly started another war."

So there would be an election. "But who would be dumb enough to run against me?"

"Me," I Think muttered.

"That figures. You should have mentioned that earlier. I would have agreed to it right away."

I Think lost the election in a rockslide (which is something like a landslide) and in his twilight years wrote some poetry (with some unkind words about Big Feet).
