Press Release - U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood Announces $4.3 Million Grant for Othello Municipal Airport in Washington
WASHINGTON - U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced a $4.3 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to relocate a runway at Othello Municipal Airport in Othello, Wash.
"This funding will help Othello Municipal Airport continue to be a great asset to the general aviation infrastructure in Washington State," said Secretary LaHood. "Making important investments in our aviation system promotes safety and economic growth in communities across the country."
The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will fund the relocation of runway 7/25 to meet line-of-sight and runway-to-taxiway separation standards. Construction will begin in October 2012, with estimated completion in June 2013.
"General aviation provides a great service to Washington State and the nation, and this grant will continue to enhance the operational safety in Othello," said Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.
AIP provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are vital to maintaining the safety, capacity and environmental stewardship of our nation's airports. More than 3,300 airports are eligible for AIP grants benefiting commercial passengers, cargo operations and general aviation activities throughout the nation.
