Press Release - U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood Announces $4.3 Million Grant for Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake, Washington
WASHINGTON - U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced a $4.3 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to reconstruct the air carrier holding apron east of the terminal at Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake, Wash.
"Grant County International Airport is a critical component of the aviation infrastructure in the state of Washington, and this funding will help the airport continue to be a great asset to commercial operators," Secretary LaHood said. "Making important investments in our aviation system promotes safety and economic growth in communities across the country."
The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will fund reconstruction of a currently unusable air carrier holding apron east of the terminal to serviceable condition. Construction will begin in June 2013, with estimated completion in September 2013.
"While this grant enhances the operational safety and efficiency of the airport, it will also provide a continued quality service to the airport passengers," said Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.
AIP provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for airport improvement projects that are vital to maintaining the safety, capacity and environmental stewardship of our nation's airports. More than 3,300 airports are eligible for AIP grants benefiting commercial passengers, cargo operations and general aviation activities throughout the nation.
