Press Release - U.S. Transportation Secretary LaHood Announces $1.7 Million Grant for Anthony Municipal Airport
ANTHONY, Kan. - U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced a $1.7 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to rehabilitate the runway at Anthony Municipal Airport.
This is the final phase of a project that will ensure that the airport's only paved runway continues to offer a safe surface for takeoffs and landings.
"Providing the means for projects such as is important to continuing safe operations at our airports," U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said. "In addition, investing in our aviation system promotes economic growth."
The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will fund the reconstruction of the runway pavement and create a new surface for aircraft as they arrive and depart the airport. The project will be underway by spring 2013 will take an estimated four months to complete.
"This funding makes the needed runway repairs and improves airport safety," said Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.
AIP provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are vital to maintaining the safety, capacity, and environmental stewardship of our nation's airports. More than 3,300 airports nationally are eligible for AIP grants benefiting commercial passengers, cargo operations, and general aviation activities.
