Pastor Ed Young Partners in Mission to Haiti to Use Elevate Children's Ministry Curriculum
/EINPresswire.com/ Lake Hills Church of Austin, Texas (partnering with Ed Young and C3 Global in supporting the orphanage) has taken Elevate Children's Curriculum's French translation to La Maison Des Petits De Diquini, an orphanage located in Port Au Prince, Haiti.
Ed Young and C3 Global, a network of churches that is part of Fellowship Church, has partnered with Lake Hills Church in using Elevate children's curriculum at La Maison Des Petits De Diquini, a Haitian orphanage. The main focus of this recent trip was to teach the 28 children at the orphanage leadership principles from the Bible. Most would agree, these children in Haiti are some of the most in need of care and assistance in preparation for dealing with above average hardships. For these reasons and more, Lake Hills chose to use Elevate on the April mission trip—striving to help children in Haiti develop Biblical leadership skills, gain Biblical values, and learn the Gospel in a relatable, interactive, and age-appropriate way.
Already having a working relationship with the orphanage, the team coordinated with La Maison Des Petits De Diquini to ensure complete preparation in order to make the use of the curriculum a success. The volunteers felt confident and ready. "We went in with a plan, but expected to be flexible," commented Whitney Wiseman. The Elevate curriculum allowed the teachers to be flexible and adjust the lesson for small and large groups, and break up the order however they needed.
When she recalled the April visit, Whitney Wiseman (a Lake Hills staff member who went on the trip) remembered preparing to teach the children. "[It was] really easy because we had everything in French and in English; it was so easy for the team to be familiar with everything," Wiseman reflected. The team was confident that director at the orphanage would find the training equally easy to absorb in French. The Elevate curriculum is offered with all-inclusive training videos, easy to use instructions, which took the guesswork out for both the mission team members and workers at the orphanage.
The children loved the Bible lessons, remaining engaged and attentive to the French version. At first, Whitney Wiseman was unsure of how the children would receive the English songs. "Even though in English, [the songs] were their favorite part," Wiseman said. The children danced and sang along, and loved learning all of the hand motions.
The use in Haiti marked the first time that the curriculum was used in French, and proved to be a success for both the volunteers and the children.
