Texas – U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder spoke unfavorably about proposed voter ID laws at a recent NAACP event. As reported by The Ticket, Holder referenced the laws, which would require the showing of acceptable forms of ID for voting, as “poll taxes.”

Holder is quoted in the report as stating while speaking before the organization, “Under the proposed law, concealed handgun licenses would be acceptable forms of photo ID, but student IDs would not… Many of those without IDs would have to travel great distances to get them, and some would struggle to pay for the documents they might need to obtain them. We call those poll taxes.”

Ten states, including Texas, have reportedly proposed implementing such laws.
