NIH Selects Centers Of Excellence In Pain Education

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Pain Consortium awarded Southern University Illinois Edwardsville (SIUE) the distinct honor of being chosen as one of 11 Centers of Excellence in Pain Education (CoEPEs). SIUE will act as a hub in the development, evaluation, and distribution of a pain management curriculum for medical, dental, nursing, and pharmacy schools. The goal, according to the NIH, will be to "enhance and improve how health care professionals are taught about pain and its treatment." NIH director Francis S. Collins, MD, PhD, stated, "Virtually all health care professionals are called upon to help patients suffering from pain."
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is one of 11 health professional schools chosen by the NIH as a Center of Excellence to develop, evaluate, and distribute a core curriculum in pain education. Herndon, PharmD, BCPS, CPE, FASHP, and St. Louis University adjunct professor and director of research Raymond Tait, PhD, in the content delivery mechanism.
