Minister of State McEntee welcomes delegation of Organic Farmers from Denmark
The Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Shane McEntee TD, today met and welcomed a group of visiting organic farmers from Denmark. The group of 52 organic farmers are on a four day tour of Irish organic farms and enterprises, starting with a demonstration farm walk at the organic farm of Mr Alan Mooney, Kilcock, Co. Kildare.
Minister McEntee said that "visits such as today's not only facilitate an exchange of information which is invaluable but also present an opportunity to benefit from the experience of an Irish Organic Farmer, gain a fresh perspective from a country which has been so successful in developing its Organic Sector and from a group of people who are such excellent organic ambassadors for their country."
The Minister stated that "my job is to encourage Irish farmers and the Irish Organic Sector, to use the knowledge and expertise gained on occasion such as this and to avail of the market opportunities that clearly exist and by doing so, maximise their potential income."
Following the visit to the organic farm, the Danish delegation's itinerary includes a mountain farm in Leenane, a sheep farm in Connemara and the award winning organic enterprises; Burren Smoke House, St Tola Cheese and Mossfield Farm.Date Released: 05 June 2012
