Sandwich, NH – At 11:48 a.m. on Monday, July 1, New Hampshire Fish and Game responded to a call about an injured hiker on the Wentworth Trail, Mt. Israel in Sandwich. Cordelia Moyse, 60, from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was hiking with a friend when she slipped and fell injuring her leg. Moyse was unable to stand or walk so her hiking companion called 911 for assistance.

Members of the Sandwich, Center Harbor, Tamworth, and Moultonborough Fire Departments along with Lakes Region Search and Rescue responded to the call for assistance. Moyse was assessed, stabilized, and then transported by rescue litter approximately 2 miles to the trailhead parking area at Mead Base Camp, arriving at 5:20 p.m. Moyse was then transported by Stewarts Ambulance Service to Lakes Region Hospital in Laconia for evaluation and treatment. No further information is available at this time.

The public is encouraged to help support search and rescue activities in the state by purchasing a Hike Safe Card. New Hampshire Fish and Game also reminds hikers to prepare themselves before venturing out into the wilderness, including packing the ten essential items: map, compass, warm clothing, extra food and water, headlamp, fire starter, first aid kit, whistle, rain/wind jackets and pants, and a knife.
