Upcoming SPTO Tourism Week Promises a Dynamic Exchange of Insights and Collaboration

The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) is pleased to announce the much-anticipated SPTO Tourism Week, scheduled from April 29th to May 5th, 2024, in Nadi, Fiji. This week-long event is set to ignite a robust exchange of knowledge, insights, and collaboration among National Tourism Organisations, partners, and stakeholders invested in the region’s tourism landscape.

The cornerstone of this event is a series of capacity-building workshops designed to empower participants with cutting-edge skills and knowledge essential for navigating the evolving tourism industry. The week starts with a comprehensive 4-day training session hosted by the Division of Research and Statistics, focusing on data analysis and benchmarking in tourism research.

Participants will engage in theoretical discourse and hands-on practical exercises, equipping them with the expertise to effectively leverage data. This initiative aims to unlock new opportunities, mitigate risks, and optimize outcomes in the dynamic realm of tourism, ultimately enhancing the industry’s competitiveness and sustainability.

Following the training session, Sustainable Tourism Regional Consultations will take center stage. These consultations aim to deepen understanding and implementation of the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Standards, fostering linkages with National Tourism Sector Plans and the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework. The workshops will facilitate knowledge exchange among Pacific nations, addressing challenges in sustainable tourism practices and exploring solutions to inform strategic pathways for National Tourism Organisations and the industry.

The agenda further includes the Digital Benchmarking Dashboard Training and the Marketing Managers training for participants from the NTO, these trainings offer insights into the significance of benchmarking in tourism research and familiarise them with the features of the digital benchmarking dashboard.

The highly anticipated Board of Directors Meeting and the launch of the Pacific Cultural Tourism Guidelines, followed by the consultation on the DFAT Aviation report and SPTO Strategic planning exercise on May 3rd will culminate the week’s activities. The event will also feature the South Pacific Tourism Exchange on May 4th and 5th, providing a platform for networking and business opportunities within the tourism sector.

“We are thrilled to host the SPTO Tourism Week in Nadi, Fiji, fostering collaboration and innovation within the South Pacific tourism community,” remarked SPTO Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker. “This event promises to be a pivotal moment for advancing sustainable tourism practices and driving economic growth in the region.”
