AJC’s Rabbi David Rosen to Address Pope’s Interfaith Gathering in Assisi

October 25, 2011 – Rome – Rabbi David Rosen, AJC’s International Director of Interreligious Affairs, will address this week’s gathering of religious leaders in Assisi, Italy.

Pope Benedict XVI invited representatives of the world’s religions to join him in Assisi, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the first such interfaith gathering, convened by Pope John Paul II in Assisi in 1986.

On Thursday, in the compound of the basilica of Assisi, the Pope will address the gathering and the designated representatives of the various religious delegations will respond. Rosen will be the only Jewish spokesperson at the event.

"I am greatly honored by this invitation, which is a testimony to the unique record of AJC in the field of Jewish-Catholic reconciliation and cooperation,’ said Rabbi Rosen.

Rosen, one of only a select few Jews to have received the Papal Knighthood, was the lone Jewish representative to address the Special Synod of Bishops on the Middle East a year ago in the Vatican.
