COVID-19 Weekly Update 4-26-2023

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 26, 2023, there have been 15 deaths reported since last week’s dashboard update, with a total of 8,109 deaths attributed to COVID-19. 

DHHR has confirmed the deaths of a 71-year old male from Kanawha County, a 78-year old male from Logan County, a 64-year old male from Marion County, an 87-year old female from Harrison County, an 87-year old male from Greenbrier County, an 88-year old female from Berkeley County, an 86-year old male from Brooke County, a 66-year old male from Fayette County, a 74-year old female from Kanawha County, an 82-year old male from Greenbrier County, a 63-year old female from Wyoming County, a 67-year old male from Harrison County, a 71-year old male from Marion County, an 83-year old female from Fayette County, and a 93-year old male from Cabell County. 

West Virginians ages 6 months and older are recommended to stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccination. At this time, to stay up-to-date, one Omicron (bivalent) COVID-19 shot is recommended for most people ages 6 years and older. Those ages 6 months through 5 years of age have more specific recommendations. Those ages 65 years and older and those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are also eligible for at least one additional Omicron COVID-19 shot for updated protection.
