WASHINGTON, September 7, 2011— Mike Doyle, the Executive Director of the New York State PetroleumCouncil, a division of API, cited the need for careful review of the community impacts supplement, released today by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC):

"We are reviewing the revised draft to assess the proposal's possible impact on job creation, energy production, and consumers of oil and natural gas," Doyle said. "However, until the parameters for the DEC's assumed impacts are thoroughly analyzed, any assessment would be speculative at best."

Industry has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement through its development of standards and best practices and looks forward to engagement throughout the stakeholder process with the DEC to effectively address community impacts, he said.

"The DEC acknowledges that natural gas can be developed safely and responsibly," Doyle added. "And New York's ability to create thousands of American jobs and billions of dollars in government revenue rests on finding an effective path forward."

API represents more than 480 oil and natural gas companies, leaders of a technology-driven industry that supplies most of America's energy, supports 9.2 million U.S. jobs and 7.7 percent of the U.S. economy, delivers more than $86 million a day in revenue to our government, and, since 2000, has invested more than $2 trillion in U.S. capital projects to advance all forms of energy, including alternatives.
