PotashCorp Advances $500,000 for Fundy Civic Centre
Sussex, New Brunswick – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) today announced full payment of its $1,000,000 pledge toward construction of the Fundy Civic Centre, two years earlier than originally scheduled. According to organizers, escalating construction costs have created a multi-million dollar funding gap that could delay the project’s start.
“Initially, we pledged $1 million over 4 years and have fulfilled $500,000 of our pledge to date,” explained Mark Fracchia, General Manager of PCS New Brunswick. “But as a gesture of support and strong commitment to the project, we have advanced the balance of our $1 million gift.”
Escalating construction costs have led to a $3 million shortfall which could stall the project from proceeding as planned. As organizers work with local, provincial and federal officials to bridge the gap, PotashCorp has accelerated payment on its pledge to help sustain the project’s momentum.
“Our company’s goal is to invest 1% of our pre-tax earnings to the communities where we have operations and support local events and causes that bring people together, build community and improve quality of life for all,” explained Fracchia. “The Fundy Civic Centre project will do this and more. We are very proud to be involved as a donor to this facility and look forward to its completion in the near future.”
