Does a Peep Show Count as Cinema? Topic Debated in EU
January 29, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ An EU ruling will decide if coin-operated peep shows should be taxed at a lower rate than the standard Value-Added Tax (VAT).
In Belgium, tax authorities say that private film viewing cubicles are automated recreation devices and should be taxed at the country's 21 percent VAT rate. However, the owner of said devices claims this is a cinema experience and should be taxed at a 6 percent rate, which is the rate paid on movie theater tickets because of cultural exemption rules.
