More Effective Asbestos Cancer Test Created

Researchers have developed improved testing for mesothelioma. Mesothelioma Cancer News (UK) – An improved test for mesothelioma has reportedly been developed. As reported by BBC News, a team of researchers at Oxford University developed a test that examines a particular protein connected to the asbestos cancer, and is considered a more sensitive technique. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer caused by asbestos exposure that usually develops several years after one has been exposed to the toxic mineral’s fibers. Dr Helen Davies, a researcher on the study, is quoted by the BBC as stating, “This study suggests a way for clinicians to more readily identify cases of mesothelioma from the start… Because mesothelioma has a median survival time of 12 months, minimizing the number of invasive procedures and tests patients require is crucial to reduce morbidity and the time they need to spend in hospital.” Davies further notes, “An earlier diagnosis also allows speedier interventions to relieve symptoms as well as initiation of other treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy if appropriate… Claims for worker's compensation may also be instigated once the diagnosis is confirmed.” Mesothelioma Cancer News provides news and information on asbestos attorneys.
