Official Handing over of Auto Mechanic NTA Level III Certificates to 11 soldiers of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF)

On the 8 July 2016, Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr. Billy Mwaningange and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Namibia, Mr. Christian Schlaga, officially handed over Certificates of the Namibian Training Authority (NTA) for Automotive Mechanic Level III to 11 soldiers of Namibian Defence Force (NDF).

The handing over of the certificates represents an important milestone in the cooperation of the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) with the NDF. As part of the Federal Government’s Equipment Aid Programme, the German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group in Namibia (GAFTAG) have been working since 1992 on various projects in and around the country. In 2008, work began with the construction and equipping of a motor vehicles repair and training workshop at the Osona Base near Okahandja. That same year, the anticipated method of “train the trainer” was initiated. In 2011, the NTA accreditation process and also the first training course commenced. Following an initial pilot phase, a total 11 soldiers could now successfully be accredited with the Level III Certificate after completing three years of training.

Following the handing over of the certificates, both guests of honour inspected further projects of GAFTAG at the Osona Base. In addition to visiting the training workshop, they also inspected the training ground and building of the driving school which had been officially handed over in 2012, as well as areas of the Mobile Field Hospital, handed over to the NDF in 2013.

In his speech, the German Ambassador Schlaga credits this success as an important contribution to continue to enable the NDF in its mission to maintain peace and stability in Namibia and Southern Africa. Deputy Defense Mwaningange praised again the years of intensive and successful cooperation between the two countries.
