/EINPresswire.com/ -- WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - May 24, 2016) - The American Veterans Center announced today that the 12th Annual National Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 30, starting at 2pm ET along Constitution Avenue in our nation's capital. The parade is a moving timeline of American military history saluting our nation's fallen heroes from the American Revolution to the present day.

This year's parade will recognize the 75th anniversary of America's entry into World War II, as well as commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Additionally, there will be a tribute to veterans of the Gulf War in honor of the 25th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, with hundreds of Gulf War veterans reuniting at the Parade in what will be the largest reunion of veterans since the Gulf War ended in 1991.

The parade will also recognize the 15th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. More than 1,000 active duty military personnel will participate in the parade.

The National Memorial Day Parade is the largest Memorial Day event in the nation. This year features:

The American Veterans Center in Washington, D.C. inaugurated the National Memorial Day Parade in 2005. Since then, the parade has grown into the largest Memorial Day event in the nation, with several hundred thousand spectators and a national television broadcast on REELZ Channel, along with coverage to our troops serving around the world on American Forces Network. It will be televised in Washington, DC on News Channel 8, and streamed live on Military.com.

The National Memorial Day Parade will commence at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street, NW. It will proceed west down Constitution, ending just past the White House and the National World War II Memorial at 17th Street. Participants will pass by the nation's monuments, memorials, and museums, and be greeted by hundreds of thousands of spectators waving their flags and cheering for our country's heroes -- all in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Parade will include floats, high school marching bands, veterans, service members, local celebrities, service organizations, clubs and much more. It is a family-friendly spectacular aimed to call attention to the true meaning of Memorial Day.
