EBV, Diabetes, and Chronic Fatigue; Is there a Link?

An infection with the Epstein-Barr Virus could lead to diabetes, which in turn can cause chronic fatigue.

There may be a cause and effect relationship between an infection with the Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), the development of diabetes, and experiencing chronic fatigue. Research shows that EBV may trigger the onset of diabetes. As noted by the Mayo Clinic, diabetes is a cause of fatigue. (1) Doctors usually recommend exercise, eating fiber, eating whole grains, losing extra weight, and making healthy food choices when it comes to preventing diabetes. (2)

The Epstein Barr virus is not the only virus linked to the onset of type-1 diabetes. In an article reviewed by Dr. Jason C. Baker M.D., it was noted that “Viruses that have been associated with type 1 diabetes as environmental triggers include coxsackie B, enteroviruses, adenovirus, rubella, cytomegalovirus, and Epstein-Barr virus.” (3)

EBV is very common. “EBV infects B and T lymphocytes of more than 90% of the general population before adulthood. Primary infection results in transient viremia (a temporary, acute infection with clear symptoms) followed by a rapid immune response.” (4) EBV is also associated with fatigue, and a growing number of cancers.

EBV infection has two phases, acute/reactivation and latency. During the latent phase, the virus continues to replicate on a small scale, and produces only some of its proteins. “Studies have shown that one-third of the general population reports a feeling of fatigue, with 5% reporting a feeling of short-term fatigue and 31% reporting a feeling of long term or chronic fatigue. In the US alone, the feeling of fatigue is responsible for 10 - 15 million visits to the family doctor every year.” (4)

The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that in light of the medical evidence, individuals with feelings of fatigue, or who may be concerned about developing diabetes, and who are infected with the latent EBV, take Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin. The formula of these natural, antiviral supplements was designed to help the immune system target the latent form of the Epstein-Barr Virus.

The formula of Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin formula is effective against the herpes family of viruses. The Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) is a member of the herpes family. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the EBV … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with (the formula of Novirin).” (5) The study authors also wrote that, “We observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (5)

Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin can be ordered online on their respective websites, here:

Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their shared formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses. To date, Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.

“The results of these studies are consistent with the research conducted by the CBCD on the formula of Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD
