HYATTSVILLE, MD, UNITED STATES, October 22, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- According to Gary Stone, president of Unified Moving Services (http://www.unifiedmovingservices.com), a Maryland-based full-service moving company that specializes in both residential and commercial moves in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, to avoid hassles when moving, there are ten mistakes that should be avoided at all costs.— Gary Stone
“When you have been in the moving business as long as we have,” Stone says, “you learn the dos and don’ts of a moving, to ensure the most successful move possible.”
Stone says that the following mistakes should be avoided when moving:
1. Failing to Research Your Mover
Stone says that it is important to thoroughly check your moving company before committing to a contract. This includes, he says, ensuring that your movers are licensed by your state’s Department of Transportation and the company’s standing with the Better Business Bureau
“It is important to check the company’s references as well,” Stone explains.
2. Spending Too Much on Packing
“Boxes and newspaper are easy to come by, and often free of charge,” Stone says. “Spend a little extra time scrounging to save money on packaging. It goes a long way.”
3. Packing Heavy Items in Large Boxes
According to Stone, the heaviest items should always go in the smallest possible boxes.
4. Forgetting to Take Measurements
“Make sure to measure the clearance space in your new residence prior to moving day,” Stone warns. “You don’t want to arrive at your new home and find that your furniture won’t fit through the door.”
5. Packing Flammable, Explosive or Corrosive Materials
When you pack such items you put yourself and your movers in danger, according to Stone.
6. Losing Your Bill of Lading
“The bill of lading is the contract between you and your moving company,” Stones says. “It is essential to reference it if any problems arise along the way.”
7. Forgetting to Label Your Boxes
Stone says that boxes should be labeled thoroughly and should include handling instructions, information on the box’s contents, and the room it’s destined for.
“These are just a few examples of mistakes that can make your move more difficult,” Stone says. “Avoid these mistakes and your move will be successful.”
