Oil & Gas UK comment on GMB/Unite decision to ballot members on industrial action
Malcolm Webb, Oil & Gas UK’s chief executive, said: “All companies in the UK North Sea are having to make urgent and difficult decisions on structural changes needed to secure the future of their operations in the basin, which has become one of the most expensive in the world in which to operate. Costs have to be brought down and production efficiency increased on a permanent basis in order to protect people’s livelihoods for the long term. Industrial action can only add to the challenges facing the industry at the moment and there will be no winners if a ballot results in a strike.”
