Showing Gratitude to Your Employees

Many employers embrace workplace lunchtime celebrations. They are a relatively inexpensive way to build employee morale and to show an employer’s appreciation for the staff. In the next two weeks, many American employers will host Thanksgiving celebrations. Keith Clouse, a Dallas employment lawyer, suggests that an employer consider these tips to make a noontime party a success.
1. When decorating for the party, an employer should keep the decorations neutral and non-religious. Turkeys, cornucopias, and pumpkins are appropriate; crosses, Pilgrims, or other items with religious meaning should not be used. 2. An employer should make attendance and participation in the celebration optional. Employees should not feel pressured to either attend the party or to contribute food or money to the event. 3. An employer should avoid religious observances. No prayers or discussions of the first Thanksgiving should be voiced. 4. An employer should ensure that the menu is diverse. Vegetarian options and food items that meet common dietary restrictions should be available. 5. An employer can show its appreciation for employees by providing the holiday turkey or another big-ticket item.
