Industry Response to HSE Report

Responding to the publication of the HSEs KP3 report, Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, said: "No one in this industry is in any doubt about the importance of asset integrity, which is the key not only to the safety of our installations but also to the longer term sustainability of the industry in the UKCS and the security of energy supplies for the country. We have therefore been working in close cooperation with the HSE for several years throughout this project.

"Over the last three years, Industry has spent more than £3 billion in the area of asset maintenance and we have done much to highlight and shift the focus to process safety and asset integrity management.

"However, the report highlights that there is work still to be done and that in some areas we are not yet where we need to be. We are committed to continuous improvement in this area and believe that the combination of individual company efforts and industry initiatives has already put us on the right track.

"Todays publication of the KP3 report will help us sharpen our industrys focus on those areas that require greater attention and help steer our on-going industry initiatives. The report is also useful in identifying examples of good practice from which others can learn.

"The board of Oil & Gas UK and chairmen of Step Change in Safety have met with senior HSE officials to review the reports findings and discuss the actions being taken, ensuring that our industry engineers and technical experts are heard and building on the good work of Step Change in Safety to improve ways of sharing and embedding best practice. We are committed to give strong leadership in these areas."
