Manchin Announces $4.1 Million to 36 West Virginia Counties
Charleston, WV — Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $4,155,784 from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s (DOI) Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program to 36 West Virginia counties with federal lands within their county lines. These payments are made annually to help defray the costs associated with maintaining important community services.
“The Payment in Lieu of Taxes program plays an important role in helping West Virginia’s local governments provide public services, including law enforcement, education, firefighting and road maintenance,” said Chairman Manchin. “This DOI funding will ensure that rural counties across the Mountain State can continue to provide these essential services and meet the needs of West Virginians. As Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I will continue to work with state and local governments to invest in our local economies and help our communities thrive.”
