VMware View 5.1 includes multi-factor authentication in collaboration with SMS PASSCODE(R)
/EINPresswire.com/ Copenhagen, May 23th, 2012 - SMS PASSCODE(R) - The recognized technology leader in multi-factor authentication for identity protection, today announced that SMS PASSCODE has been a collaboration partner in the implementation and test of RADIUS support in the latest VMware View release.
RADIUS is an industry standard method for empowering two-factor and multi-factor authentication of generic third party manufacturers. As a result of this collaboration, SMS PASSCODE customers are now able to embrace VMware VDI technologies as part of their infrastructure and reversely, VMware View clients can now increase security via the award-winning SMS PASSCODE multi-factor authentication solution.
"It is our goal to enable a broad range of strong authentication options in VMware View, including leading third-party multi-factor technologies such as SMS PASSCODE," says Jay Tomlin, product manager for VMware View. "As part of our View 5.1 release, we collaborated with SMS PASSCODE's skilled engineering team to offer increased authentication choice with an optimal user experience. As a result of that collaboration we can assure customers that the solution is validated and supported by both us and the manufacturers," he continues.
In brief, when a user accesses the VMware View Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, they are first validated with User ID and password. It is not until that has been validated that SMS PASSCODE generates a code that is only valid for that login session and delivers it in real-time to a user's mobile device via SMS Text Message, voice call or secure e-mail for verification and subsequent secure access.
"This is the latest of a string of partnerships we have announced, where we have been collaborating with leading vendors in the remote access space to take full advantage of the more secure login protection that SMS PASSCODE has been internationally recognized for. The work with the VMware engineering team has been very productive and the result is of great value to our joint customers" says Lars Barthold Nielsen, Vice President Commercial Operations, SMS PASSCODE.
SMS PASCODE has currently support for VMware View via a windows configuration. The new RADIUS based VMware View 5.1 server is slated for release this month and the clients to support the server transparently with SMS PASSCODE is planned to be released later in the year.
