Bachmann Visits Afghanistan and Middle Eastern Nations
“I was honored to visit the brave men and women serving our nation in Afghanistan. It is evident that they take great pride in their work and I take great pride in them. The United States is fortunate to have such exceptional heroes.
“My visit to Afghanistan came at an opportune time as we anticipate a drawdown of combat forces in the near future. The troops I spoke with want to ensure our mission is met in Afghanistan; and I agree. We have made a heavy investment into this effort so we must not exit prematurely or stay an hour longer than what we are needed. I believe we must continue training the Afghanistan personnel so that they are prepared to police themselves locally and to be a fighting military team.
“It was a privilege to visit our military forces in Afghanistan. I took this trip after hosting Gen. John Allen in my Washington office. In that meeting about operations in Afghanistan, General Allen invited me to visit our overseas effort. I’m pleased I could accept General Allen’s invitation. I met so many Minnesotans, including men and women from the cities in my district of Woodbury, Hugo, Forest Lake, St. Michael, Buffalo, St. Cloud, Elk River and more. I commend the work that our troops are doing each and every day.”
