Bringing services closer to communities: Bong Go assists displaced workers and lauds turnover of Super Health Center in Cateel, Davao Oriental

Senator Christopher "Bong" lauded the turn-over of the Super Health Center on November 26, Tuesday, in Barangay Poblacion, Cateel, Davao Oriental. He also sent his Malasakit Team to extend assistance to the town's economically challenged residents in coordination with Mayor Emilou "Miloy" Nuñez.

"Ituring nyo lang po ako parang kapatid, hindi ako iba sa inyo. Maraming salamat po sa inyong tiwala na binigay sa akin at hindi ko po ito sasayangin," Go said.

In his video message, Go expressed his joy and satisfaction at the turnover of the Super Health Center, highlighting its critical role in serving the community of Cateel.

"Alam ko po na isa sa mga hamon ng ating mga residente ay ang pagkakaroon ng access sa mga pangunahing serbisyong pangkalusugan dahil sa layo ng mga pasilidad. Kaya naman patuloy kong isinusulong ang pagtatayo ng mas marami pang Super Health Centers sa buong bansa," he stated.

The Super Health Centers offer a wide range of services, including database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray and ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit. Other available services are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation centers, and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done.

Go, a health reforms crusader, underlined that this program is in line with his campaign to make government services more accessible to Filipinos, especially those who live in rural areas with limited access to medical care.

With the support of fellow lawmakers, local government units, and the Department of Health, funds were allocated for more than 700 Super Health Centers, including 13 in Davao Oriental.

He also acknowledged the dedicated medical front liners present at the event, urging them to continue their essential work in providing healthcare to community members. Go assured them of his continued support, as enhancing the country's health sector remains a top priority for him.

The senator likewise gave food packs, shirts, fans, basketballs, and volleyballs to 50 barangay health workers in attendance as recognition and show of support.

In addition to the Super Health Center's turnover, Senator Go's Malasakit Team also extended assistance to 585 displaced workers in the town. These workers are set to participate in temporary community work under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Senator Go underscored the significance of this program in supporting disadvantaged Filipinos, especially those heavily impacted by economic challenges.

Held at the Terminal Foodcourt in Cateel, the displaced workers received additional support from Go, including shirts, vitamins, masks, fans, and basketballs and volleyballs.

To further promote the welfare of Filipino workers affected by crises and ensure that those who reside in rural areas lacking job opportunities are taken care of, Go filed Senate Bill No. (SBN) 420. Under the proposed legislation, the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) would be established if enacted into law to provide temporary employment options to individuals who qualify based on criteria such as economic hardship, poverty, displacement, or seasonal employment.

Additionally, in response to the ongoing economic challenges faced by many Filipinos, Go co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which seeks to increase the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide, aiming to provide immediate financial relief to workers across the country.

Mayor Nuñez then thanked the Senator for his unending support for the Filipino people, especially in Cateel.

The turnover of the Super Health Center and the support extended to displaced workers demonstrate Mr. Malasakit, Senator Bong Go's proactive approach to addressing the health and economic challenges faced by Filipinos, particularly in underserved areas.

"Bilang inyong Mr. Malasakit, patuloy akong magseserbisyo sa inyo sa abot ng aking makakaya dahil ang tangi kong bisyo ay magserbisyo at naniniwala ako na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo yan sa Diyos," Go concluded.
