Olympia (WA) Approves Community Solar Projects

The City of Olympia, Washington has approved five new community solar projects, which will be installed at the Hands on Children's Museum, City Hall, the Olympia Community Center, Fire Station #4, and Fir Street Reservoir. The projects will be deployed through a nine-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Thurston Solar Management (TSM), a joint venture of PureSolar and Tangerine Power. TSM will install, operate and maintain the solar installations, and the city will purchase the generated solar electricity at a rate of 4.5 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The projects will take advantage of a Washington state production incentive of up to $1.08 per kWh for community solar projects installed on government property that use modules and inverters manufactured in Washington state. Construction for each of the solar installations is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
