Riverwoods, IL — Three people were killed when a medical transport plane crashed in suburban Chicago Monday night, November 28, 2011. The plane crashed just before 11 p.m. in Riverwoods, about 25 miles northwest of Chicago and just a few miles from its destination at the Chicago Executive Airport, reported the Washington Post.

The Tran North Aviation-owned plane was transporting five people at the time of the crash, which included patient John Bialek, 80, of Streamwood, and his 75-year-old wife, Ilomae Bialek, in addition to a flight paramedic and two pilots.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed that the pilot alerted air traffic controllers that the plane was having fuel problems before it went down.

The plane, which originated from Georgia, crashed in a wooded area between homes, and did not injure anyone on the ground.

The Bialek’s were killed in the crash, along with William Didier, 58, of Cedar Grover, Wis., who is believed to have been the pilot.

The other two people aboard the plane are expected to survive.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the fatal aviation accident.
