DHHR Initiates Improvements to Diamond Building Exterior

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources’ (DHHR) announced today that the Diamond Building on Capitol Street in downtown Charleston will undergo construction to address issues with the facade. Work is expected to begin the week of April 17, 2023.

As part of the project, scaffolding will be installed across the entire Capitol Street side and approximately two-thirds of the Washington Street side of the building. The scaffolding is designed to protect pedestrians on the sidewalk and will also provide a base for any future corrective work to be completed.

Temporary closures of one lane of Washington Street and one lane of Capitol Street are anticipated intermittently throughout the project in collaboration with the City of Charleston and the West Virginia Division of Highways.
