Aviation News: Select Jeppesen VFR+GPS Charts Now Include Class B Airspace Depiction on Reverse Side to Improve Situational Awareness
Jeppesen, a unit of Boeing Flight Services, now provides Class B airspace diagrams on the back side of selected VFR+GPS Enroute paper charts for coverage in North America. Pilots are now able to transition between Jeppesen’s industry-leading enroute and terminal charts while in the cockpit by simply turning over the chart for 15 Class B airspace locations in the U.S.
The new 1:250,000 scale depiction of Class B “area chart” airspace on the back of selected Jeppesen VFR+GPS Enroute charts improves situational awareness in the cockpit. Critical Class B airspace flight information is now presented in an improved format that is easy to access for visual flight rules (VFR) general aviation pilots and flight training programs.
“Jeppesen now provides VFR pilots with the convenience of having two charts in one, when using our VFR+GPS charts for selected coverages that include Class B airspace,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. “Transitioning between enroute and terminal, or Class B airspace with this new chart design eliminates the need for two separate charts for these locations and compliments the industry-standard features and benefits of our VFR+GPS chart library.”
Jeppesen VFR+GPS charts are designed for integration with current GPS navigation technology and incorporates traditional best practices for VFR flying. Jeppesen VFR+GPS charts combine FAA information with Jeppesen cultural, obstacle and terrain database material to provide VFR pilots with vital flight information depicted by intuitive chart symbols and colors presented in a simple, standardized chart orientation.
Additional Jeppesen VFR+GPS chart information includes radio frequency, airspace and GPS checkpoint and waypoint tables and selected airport diagrams which improve the VFR flying experience.
Primary Jeppesen VFR+GPS enroute charts with respective Class B airspace diagrams that are available or planned include Chicago, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Kansas City, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, Memphis, New Orleans, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Seattle.
Jeppesen VFR+GPS charts are revised every six months and cover the continental U.S. Charts are available in 1:500,000 enroute and the 1:250,000 Class B terminal or area chart formats for VFR pilots. Jeppesen area charts that have been transitioned to the reverse side of enroute charts will be discontinued, although selected area charts will remain due to the complexity of Class B airspace (New York), special flight rule area (Washington DC) or multiple Class B airports (Los Angeles/ San Diego) in some areas. Area charts that will continue are: Atlanta, Boston, Denver, Detroit/Cleveland, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Tampa/Orlando, and Washington, D.C.
